QuestionHi I have a question regarding the OSMF that isn't really cleared up by the FAQs in my specific usecase. I have written two tools, VSCode2Msi and SimpleMSI, and am in the process of writing another similar tool that use WiX under the hood. As in it does not just use WiX to be packaged but uses the actual WiX executable to build an MSI package. The question that now comes up is whether this counts as transitive dependency/downstream use or active use of WiX on the users side. Since, per the FAQ, the fee only applies if you actively use WiX. The user does have to use wix.exe sometimes (installing extensions, accepting the EULA (that's why I ask this)) but they never actually interact with WiX directly once it is actually set up correctly. That means they are a consumer of the WiX Toolset.
This is the strongest signal the user needs to pay the OSMF. The goal for adding the EULA acceptance was to make it super clear when the OSMF applied. |
